Aquila Safari provides an unforgettable chance to witness South Africa’s iconic Big 5—lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo—on a thrilling 2–3 hour game drive through a stunning private reserve. Set in the heart of the African bush, this safari experience places you in a 4x4 vehicle alongside a knowledgeable ranger who will guide you through the rugged terrain in search of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, and various species of antelope. Please note, the entrance ticket to the reserve is not included in the tour price and must be paid directly at the Aquila office on the day of the safari (approximately R1890 per person). Before your adventure begins, you may also have the chance to stop at a nearby vineyard for a curated wine tasting session, featuring a range of South African reds, whites, and sparkling wines.
Following the game drive, unwind and savor a delicious buffet lunch at the lodge, where you’ll enjoy a spread of local and international dishes prepared with fresh regional ingredients. The tranquil setting of the lodge offers the perfect contrast to the excitement of the safari, allowing time to relax and reflect on your wildlife encounters. With convenient hotel pickup and drop-off in Cape Town included, this tour offers a seamless and immersive day trip into the wild. Aquila is a great choice for a quick experience, this is not a 5star resort. It’s affordable and close to Cape Town. The rooms are nice however desperately needs new furniture as many things are worn and broken. However it’s is well presented. The animals are great! There are no leopards. The vehicles are good and the guides are well organized. The food was good, nice verity of food, I’ve heard terrible things about the food but it was not that bad at all. We did overnight so it was lunch, dinner and breakfast buffet. Overall, all things considered Aquila is safe choice. I’m sure there are better reserves offer a more luxurious experience but if you want a safari experience that is close by it’s a safe option.

If this is your first safari, you’ll absolutely adore it here. The rooms are top-notch, the buffet food is excellent, and the staff are warm and attentive. The park itself is on the smaller side, which means you’re almost guaranteed to see everything it has to offer. It’s conveniently close to Cape Town. If comfort and luxury are priorities, this place delivers beautifully, especially with the opportunity to watch wildlife right from the poolside. What I didn’t enjoy as much was how noisy most guests were during the safari drives, and left unchecked by the driver — it felt disruptive to the animals. Interestingly, the animals didn’t seem too bothered by the commotion, which felt a little unnatural. In the lion enclosure, for instance, we were able to drive right up to them and they barely flinched. Personally, I prefer larger parks where you can observe big herds moving naturally through their environment. All that said, this is still a great option for a more intimate and comfortable safari experience.

Aquila Game Reserve is a great option for a Cape Town safari! Spacious rooms, delicious buffets, and exciting game drives. Kids love the play area and mini golf! Guides are knowledgeable, and the Big Five are almost guaranteed. Relaxing spa and pool areas too! Highly recommend for families and couples seeking a wild adventure near Cape Town. For me aquila is 5/5 stars!

An experience that met all expectations. Welcomed with a glass of prosecco and extremely warm staff who, like in most places in South Africa, greeted you with joy and appreciation. The safari was amazing. We were told that it could last two - two and a half hours, but we were on South African time….. it lasted over three! There was a lovely surprise towards the end where there was a watering hole, not for the wildlife but for the guests. Well worth the time and money.

Visiting Aquila Private Game Reserve was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality and seamless organization set the tone for a memorable day. The game drive was an absolute highlight — seeing the Big Five in their natural habitat was breathtaking, with knowledgeable rangers who shared insights about wildlife and conservation efforts. The landscape itself is stunning, offering endless views of the reserve’s natural beauty. Our breakfast after the morning drive was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, wholesome options to start the day. Later, the lunch buffet exceeded expectations with delicious local dishes, plenty of choices, and generous portions that catered to every taste. Both meals reflected the same care and attention to detail that the reserve puts into the entire guest experience. The combination of great food, excellent service, and the rare chance to see such incredible animals up close made the visit extraordinary. Aquila offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation — a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience South Africa’s wildlife and hospitality at its best.
